11.16.2022 – Lesson 10 | WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

Ecclesiastes 12:1-13
Philippians 4:8-9
Isaiah 5:20
Proverbs 23:23
“Winning the war in Your Mind” by Craig Groeschel
“Our lives do follow the direction of our thoughts. The better we grasp that truth, the better equipped we’ll be to change the trajectory of our lives.”
Fred Hollomon, a former chaplain of the Kansas State Senate:
“Omniscient Father, help us to know who is telling the truth. One side tells us one thing, and the other just the opposite. And if neither side is telling the truth, we would like to know that, too. And if each side is telling half the truth, give us the wisdom to put the right halves together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Erwin Lutzer “No Reason to Hide”
“Leftist news outlets and politicians want us to become weary of standing up against their skewed vies of sexuality, race, and justice. If they can cause us to lose heart, they know it will be easier to get us to submit and tell ourselves, ‘The wolf is at the door; just let him in.’
We must understand that the battle is often won or lost through an assault on words. And ultimately, a war on words is a war on ideas. The radical left want to use words not just to win the debate, but to cancel the debate altogether. They want to destroy the influence of those who might disagree with them. They want to use words to limit and even control our thoughts. Keep in mind that the purpose of propaganda is to reshape people’s view of reality by reimagining reality, appealing to human desires, and using covert deception. Propaganda creates parallel universe in which ideology creates ‘facts’ followed with hollow promises.
David Jeremiah “Where Do We Go From Here?
“A deadly virus is quietly spreading throughout our nation. It is far more lethal than COVID-19 and most Americans are totally unaware of the threat that it poses to our freedom and way of life. This disease is called socialism and, until recently, it had been considered public enemy number one by Americans. That is no longer the case. A 2020 poll showed that 40 percent of Americans had a favorable view of socialism, and that number goes to 61 percent when the polling is for those between the ages of 18-24.
From the erosion of free speech and free exercise of religion to the looming threat of a one-world government that allows for no opposition, socialismis a pernicious force that the followers of Christ must be ready to face head on. Our freedom, and perhaps our very lives depend on it.”
“The Encyclopedia Britannica”
“Its depiction of a state WHERE DARING TO THINK DIFFERENTLY is rewarded with torture, where people are monitored every second of the day, and where party propaganda trumps free speech and thought is a sobering reminder of the evils of unaccountable governments.”
The Great Courses: “George Orwell; A Sage for All Seasons” Lesson 23, 1984; Teacher: Professor Michael Sheldon
Summary:
George Orwell was more than just a writer. He was a political and social sage who valued, above all else, individual freedom. His works aren’t just entertainment – they’re cautionary tales and red flags of warning. And if we ever hope to understand threats to freedom and how to stop them, we must learn from them. In these 24 lectures, learn how the man born as Eric Blair forged himself into a writer of international importance and renown. Mixing historical inquiry, literary analysis, and cultural biography, Professor Shelden gets at the truth of British life in the opening decades of the 20th century. These lectures cover the creation, reception, and implication of Orwell’s major works, from Burmese Days and Homage to Catalonia to Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Embark on a chronological journey through Orwell’s life and times, from his youth in Edwardian England to his formative experiences at boarding school (captured in the brilliant essay, “Such, Such Were the Joys”) to his being shot through the neck by a sniper while serving as a freedom fighter against the forces of General Franco. Along the way, examine the experiences – and the people – Orwell drew upon when forging himself into a writer and a citizen of the world. Here, in one comprehensive package, is a compendium of all Orwell’s many personas: the writer brave enough to speak truth to power, the soldier willing to sacrifice his life for others, the citizen willing to expose the injustices, and the sage for freedom-loving civilizations everywhere. Here is what Professor Michael Sheldon says in lesson 23:
“Humans don’t always need words for feelings, but we do need them for thought, especially complex thought. And that is why Big Brother is at war with language. He wants to make it less useful for examining ideas by reducing the power of words to the barest expressions. Newspeak is his tool for keeping his subjects permanently inarticulate.”

Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley
“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude. To make them love it is the task assigned, in present-day totalitarian states, to ministries of propaganda, news-paper editors and schoolteachers.”

Voltaire?
A system that forces people to embrace absurd beliefs causes damage to their processes of rational thought. These impaired people are more likely to act illogically and destructively. With encouragement they may act barbarously. Here are three instances from a family of related sayings:

(1) Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.
(2) People will continue to commit atrocities as long as they continue to believe absurdities.
(3) If we believe absurdities, we shall commit atrocities.

How Is Language Manipulated in Propaganda?

Erwin Lutzer “No Reason to Hide”
“All political campaigns, whether liberal or conservative, try to come up with a slogan that is memorable end evokes emotion and dedication.
“Make America Great Again” or “Build Back Better” are examples. Noam Chomsky said a revolution can be brought about only when you have a slogan that is hard to speak against. Of course, I might add you also need an enemy to hate.
Perhaps one of the most effective slogans of our day is “Black Lives Matter”, which is almost unassailable as a banner. Only when you peel back the label do you see a Marxist organization that believes only SOME black lives matter – namely, the ones that can be used for political purposes.
The slogan “Fight for Social Justice” seems like one every Christian should support. For believers, seeking justice is not merely optional but a mandate. But when you unpack what SOCIAL JUSTICE means today, you discover it involves the restructuring of the whole order of society based upon matter such as gender identity, Critical Race Theory, socialism, and equity.”

Henry Morris, former president of the Institute for Creation Research in his last published book before his death:
The Long War Against God” published 1989
“Many layers of error have been built on the faulty foundation of evolutionism. Humanism is the natural result. If God is not central in all our thinking, then man must be.
Atheism is humanism’s twin brother, and consistent evolutionists cannot logically believe in the personal God of the Bible, the God who is the Creator of all life. Abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia are logical behaviors for those who have so easily disposed of the image of God in the eternal soul of man. The concept of a resurrected body and eternal life is also a casualty of this evil philosophy.
The average person neither knows nor cares much about the error of evolution, and yet his or her life is constantly being influenced by it. Pornography, adultery, divorce, homosexuality, premarital sex, the destruction of the nuclear family – all are weeds that have grown from Satan’s big lie about the universe. We are now on the verge of adopting full-fledged animalism in human practice – promiscuity, vandalism, hedonism, even incipient cannibalism. Even the Holocaust is ‘explained’ by evolution. Hitler’s extermination of the Jews grew out of his desire to speed up the evolutionary process.
When one views the carnage of the evolutionary dogma, it is hard to explain its wide acceptance and influence. How did belief in Darwinism become so widespread when it was developed mainly by an apostate divinity student (Darwin), a lawyer (Lyell), and agriculturist (Hutton), a journalist (Chambers), and other non-scientists?
The fact is that Evolutionism did not originate with Darwin. Evolutionism is basic in ancient and modern ethnic religions and in all forms of pantheism. Naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace admitted that he received the basic tenets of the Darwinian form of this heresy while in an occult trance in a Malaysian jungle. It does not take a theologian to figure out the identity of the revealer. Satan and his evolutionary gospel hate God as the Creator, Christ as the Savior, and the Bible as the Word of God. Modern evolutionism is simply the continuation of Satan’s long war against God.”
